Cibrya or Kybyra as it is usually sometimes known, the authorities have a dislike of the “C” letter and prefer “K”! lies outside the area of Lycia but over the earlier years had an association with the Lycian Federation. It was the head of a tetrapolis with the cities of Bubon, Balbura and Oenoanda. It was a very large city and was reputed to have been able to support an army of 30,000 soldiers and 2,000 cavalry, so it is estimated that the population must have numbered about a hundred thousand. The area it exercised control too was vary large and it’s position on top of a hill commanded the outlying countryside for several miles.

The ruins are reached from the town of Golhisar. The remains of the city are scattered over the hillside and an unusual feature is the road leading to the site being lined with sarcophagi and other tombs.

Some of the inscriptions are readily visible.

Much work has been done on some of the buildings, notably a bathing complex

Also the stadium is now easier to see, with the seats clearly visible.

Just visible the remains of a large theatre.

Other buildings are a large later complex, probably Byzantine
