The new road parallel to the coast, some 35 kilometres before Antalya is the historic city of Phasellis or now the village of Tekirova. The city lies in woods and being also beside the sea a favourite place for tourists and others to picnic.
The city was founded in 690 B.C. as a colony of Rhodes. It had three ports and was rich in forest products. After 160 B.C. the city joined the Lycian Union under Roman sovereignty.
The main ruins of the city are found on the two sides of the main avenue that connects the military port to the south port. Featured ruins are the aqueduct that brought water from some distance at a spring to the north of a hill from the Hadrian Agora.

Shops along the length of the street.

An example of the tiles that supported a hypercaust heating system. The floor having been re-used for some other purpose!

A view from above of one of the shops. They were large and no doubt the upper stores housed the owners accommodation.

The remains of a mosaic floor in one of the shops.
