This attractive village called Ucagiz manages to combine old and new buildings in a most delightful way. Overlooking the village is a medieval castle, well worth the climb for the views over the bay. There are some two dozen tombs around and about the village with also the remains of older buildings incorporated into modern houses. The harbour is a favourite stopping off point for gullets and yachts. A good road leads to the village and once there, there are small pensions and restaurants.
Not much is known about the city except it was the fourth member of the Aperlite sympolity. There are inscriptions one being a dedication to the Emperor Titus (79-81 AD) by the council and people of Aperlai and the other members of the sympolity.

Dotted around the hillside are the few sarcophagi, but not many.

Rising sea levels combined with movements in the land have left some sarcophagi marooned. However there are stepping stone leading to it!
